In recent years, a number of new technologies have emerged that change the way credit cardholders pay for their purchases. Consumers are now able to shop with their smart phones, and small business owners and independent contractors can accept payments with portable processing systems. But the U.S. has not quite caught up to other countries, who have shifted from credit cards that host a magnetic strip to new smartcards, which contains an embedded chip.
