The US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) made the announcement yesterday that they will implement new radon testing and radon mitigation requirements for multifamily units in an effort to prevent lung cancer. This new program is part of the CDC Healthy Homes Initiative. National radon mitigation company, S.W.A.T. Environmental is staffing-up to handle the increased workload.
Yesterday afternoon, HUD released their new radon mitigation and testing requirements for multifamily buildings. Effective June 4 of this year, all multifamily structures will require radon testing and in cases where the levels are above the limit; radon mitigation will be required. Members of the Safe Housing Coalition believe that this new legislation will save hundreds of thousands of lives over the next decade.
