A second half extra-time strike from Abdulazeez Azeez was all Anwar Ul-Islam needed to beat Kings College as they lifted the Heritage Cup Trophy on Friday, May 18, 2012 at the Campos Stadium, Lagos Island.
The competition in its maiden edition had started with 21 secondary schools in Lagos but only St. Gregory’s College, Ansar Ud-Deen College, Kings College and Anwar Ul-Islam made it as far as the last four.
Anwar Ul-Islam made a strong statement in the semi-finals, beating Ansar Ud-Deen 8-0 and thus entered the final as bookmakers’ favorites. It was not easy for them though as Kings College gave everything they had right from the first blast of the whistle.
